About This Cruise Site?
The Short Answer
The Erie Canal passes through more than a dozen towns in New York State, and the boats that carry visitors on it belong to several small, independent operators (see Best Canal Towns). No single place had pulled those cruises and rentals together, so this site does. You will find everything we can confirm, from two-hour lock cruises in Lockport to self-drive rentals that put you aboard for several nights. Each trip is run by a real operator, and every listing links to a page where you can book directly.
What's On The Site
Twelve tours sit across three categories. Two cruises cover the Lockport and Mohawk Valley stretch, where boats pass through the locks themselves. Seven run out of the Rochester, Pittsford and Fairport area, among them lock cruises, a lunch cruise, a Sunday brunch sail and evening trips. Three are canal boat rentals, taken by the night rather than the hour, with options of three, four or seven nights between May and October.
How Tours Get Ranked
Only real, bookable trips make it onto the site. Each listing carries the rating and review count exactly as the operator publishes it, so a cruise with 1633 reviews reads differently from one with 53. No operator can pay for a better spot. When a price is not published, the listing says so rather than guessing a number.
How Facts Get Checked
Every detail here traces back to something public. Durations, schedules and ratings come from the operators' own pages and their booking listings. Canal rules, season dates and lock hours are checked against official New York State canal sources (see Erie Canal Museum). If a detail cannot be confirmed, it does not appear on the site.
How This Site Earns
Every cruise listed here is run by an independent canal operator, and the direct links to their booking pages cost you nothing extra. A few other links on the site are affiliate links, which pay us a small amount if you make a reservation through them. Operators never pay for placement, so the order of our listings reflects the trips themselves, not who pays us.
Where To Begin
If you already know which part of the canal you want, start with the tour pages for Lockport, for the Rochester area, or for a rental. The guides then cover the practical questions: what passing through a lock feels like, what to pack for an evening cruise, and how a week aboard a rented canal boat actually works.
